Through creative partnerships with visionary designers and architects such as Arne Jacobsen, Hans J. Wegner and Poul Kjærholm, Fritz Hansen developed a culture characterized by the love of good craftsmanship coupled with a desire to make the most of modern industrial production methods in the manufacturing and distribution of good design.

Oki Sato - founder of Nendo and designer of Fritz Hansen’s remarkable N01 chair - expresses his design philosophy through graphics, art installations and architecture. He was born in Toronto, Canada and later moved to Tokyo, where he earned an M.A. in Architecture at Waseda University. In 2002, he founded the Nendo studio, opened offices in Tokyo and Milan, and began work on architectural projects and grand furniture designs worldwide.

Nendo's philosophy states that, in the same way that life is full of little "!" moments - or moments of surprise and richness - so are the studio's designs. "Nendo" means modeling clay in Japanese - a term perfectly suited to the studio’s sculptural approach to design no matter the material. For their work, Nendo has been awarded with prestigious Dezeen, Wallpaper and Red Rot Design Awards. Nendo’s work has been included in the collections of the MoMA, Musee des Arts Decoratifs, the Museum of Arts and Design, Cooper-Hewit National Design Museum, and many more.
