The vision of L. ERCOLANI is firmly rooted in a century of design tradition. A vision that only grows in strength and eminence as the years pass, further solidifying L. Ercolani’s legacy of well-built furniture, designed and crafted to be cherished for generations.

Established in 1920 by 32-year-old trained furniture maker Lucian Ercolani, L. Ercolani was influenced by local artistry and classic British design traditions since its inception. Inspired by the pure elemental beauty of wood, our furniture echoes a modest and unadorned aesthetic, quietly encouraging purposeful interaction, collaboration and intimacy.

Born out of a deep appreciation for rich materiality, L.ercolani takes pride in creating a thoughtful design that consistently imparts a rich, tactile language. The nuances of this distinct yet classic presence continues to befit contemporary living, dining and working settings, remaining just as relevant and treasured as they were from the beginning.

Matthew Hilton has been intimately associated with the revival of exciting British Furniture Design in recent years. Born in Hastings in 1957, he attended Portsmouth College of Art and then Kingston Polytechnic, from where he graduated with a degree in Furniture Design in 1979.

During the early 80s, Matthew worked as an industrial designer for the product design company Capa in London, before setting up the Matthew Hilton Design Studio in 1985 to work with a number of renowned manufacturers and retailers – most recently including ercol. Matthew was awarded Designer of the Year at The British Design Awards 2008.
